brother of mine
Two chef brothers acquired an empty 280m2 concrete tilt-up angular shell and engaged bradleycole to create a café / restaurant that would have a strong community and ecologically sustainable focus. Food brings people together and the brothers wanted to celebrate that in a casual, yet deeply considered, family dining experience. Their food story was about family gatherings, Nan’s cooking and food’s social importance. This gave a wonderfully honest and admirable backstory to their new venue’s brand.
One of the main challenges with large open spaces is creating intimacy and different dining experiences. The approach here was to create a freestanding concrete blockwork portico in the centre of the space, effectively breaking the area up into three dining zones, whilst also creating a define venue entry and a service corridor at the back.
The design resolution offered an open-house, light filled venue with natural, honest finishes and materials. Along with the coffee roasting area, the cooking line was open to patrons, adding to the venue’s theatre of production and story.
Our engagement included the lighting consultancy and design.
