il lido dining pavilion

The brief for this project was to create an outside dining area that would both offer weather protection for patrons, as well as engage with the splendour of it’s ocean front location. One of the main planning constraints was that the proposed site was Council owned land with a labyrinth of underground services.

Following ongoing consultation with the Local authorities, it was agreed that a removable structure would be permissible, and this open dining pavilion was conceived.

The cedar cladded steel structure has been design to adapt to changing weather conditions through the day and night, with a retractable translucent cloth roof and clear acrylic drop blinds on the side open to the prevailing winds. It shelters patrons from hot summer sun and strong afternoon sea breezes, while allowing maximum winter sun and control of cooling breezes on those gorgeous Perth summer nights.
