ocean view

Regarded as one of the top ten heritage building in Fremantle by the National Trust, the Ocean View residence holds great cultural significance. Built in 1887, this single-storey Victorian Regency style, stone residence with a galvanised iron roof, was originally the home of Elias Solomon, an influential figure in the public and business life of Fremantle. The building was also important for service as a military hospital during World War One, then as a maternity hospital during the inter-war years. It is further valued as a residence of imposing scale, an example of a substantial dwelling built in a semi- rural area in the second half of the nineteenth century, which adds significantly to the landscape and contributes to the local community’s sense of place.

This project involved forming a Heritage Agreement between our client and the  Heritage Council of Western Australia, restoring the residence accordingly and designing stone boundary walls and internal landscaping consistent with the Heritage Agreement’s intent.
