Duende was an established restaurant before bradleycole was engaged to re-design the central bar, kitchen and back of house areas in 2011. This engagement also involved obtaining approvals for increases in the liquor licensing patron numbers and the amount of alfresco dining area. The brief required a reconfiguration of the existing restaurant layout, to establish three main hospitality experience; bar / casual dining, semi-formal seated dining and alfresco dining.
The existing bar was extended into a central visual element that divided the convivial entry side of the restaurant from the seated dining area. Suspended wine storage and glass racks were use to fracture views and add intimacy and intrigue. The kitchen was also rotated and opened to correctly address the room and the bar top dinners, and strengthen the venue’s engagement with food and drink production.
